One reason I think that it stands out in my mind though is because I have a strong background in dance rather than music/vocal, acting, etc. and it's an intensely dance-heavy show. I also can't believe what an amazing job they did with costumes & makeup, it's nearly impossible to recreate them. It was also one of the first musicals I really loved and it's just fun to watch!

<lj-embed id="18" />

<lj-embed id="19" />

<lj-embed id="20" />

<lj-embed id="21" />

Okay I've been deathly ill for about a week now and in my recovering stages I'm finally having a few good laughs.
I discovered textsfromlastnight during college this past year, it's pretty hilarious sometimes but a lot of them are just so-so.

The best and worst...!
(some of these have foul language, you've been warned!)

I've gathered some of my favorites here. You know, just for kicks.

If you're not familiar with it, the numbers in parentheses are the area code the text was sent from.

(419): just went to get groceries. a cashier said she saw me last night. i guess i carried a broom back from the party and swept the street the whole walk back...and i claimed to be in the cast of wicked

(301): i wanna do a homemade sex video in sepia and pretend were in the early 20th c

(850): Are they still out there making out on the couch? How can we get them to leave?
(850): I 'm gonna go stand naked in the kitchen with a knife

(847): i took some ambien and I TRIPPED out...i went into my mom's room to say goodnight and i don't remember anything...she said that i got really pissed at her because we were living in the Keebler elf tree and she was visiting other trees, then i started laughing hysterically and she goes "whats so funny?" and i go "there are 7 people sitting on my knees" and she goes "doesn't that hurt?" and i said "no we're sitting in a bowl" and then i capped it off and said "join the crazy train bro" and passed out.

(919): so I was just driving high and I stopped to let a pinecone cross the road because I thought it was a hedgehog.

(202): I tried to gradually lead her into my room but she wouldn't stop crying and quoting memoirs of a geisha

(434): why are there goldfish crackers all over my bed?
(540): you decided you wanted to name them & keep them as pets.

(402): I used a bag of wine as a pillow last night.

(207): I blacked out in 45 minutes and woke up with a missed call from someone I saved in my phone as the karate kid.

(703): it wasn't lemon gatorade

(540): I just crawled out of a second story window using a sheet and his clothes for a rope so he wouldn't wake up.
(540) I am so glad I watched Macgyver as a kid.

(570): why did i make a hit list last night containing only McDonalds?
(1-570): you tried to order a magarita mcflurry and when they said they didnt make those you tried to call 911

(330): I don't know where I am but the food in the fridge is awesome.

(214): dude. I'm so drunk.
(972): pete, this is bryce's mom
(214): I can't wait to have my cock in your ass
(972): pete, this is still bryce's mom

(440): thanks for house sitting, cat must be hiding again... everything go ok?
(216): ... about that ...

(631): all I know is if I don't watch spice world right now there will be a firefight.

(818): Do I give off a "I have a sex tape" vibe???

(954): You know you have a problem when you walk into your bathroom find kettle one in your shower and a note you wrote yourself when drunk that says "panties at jared leto's" on your counter

(401): dude, the reading rainbow guy was just talking to a HOLOGRAM
(616): Are you sure you're not watching Star Trek?
(401): wait... oh

(917): I think I just saw someone hide a body.

(516): why did i save someone in my phone as corn dildo?

(215): im as drunk as the barefoot contessa.
I just woke up.
Yes it's 6 AM, but I can't sleep when I'm hot and I was positively sweating a minute ago and had to peel off my pajama pants and then decided to just get up.

Before that, though, I had an awesome dream.

My suitemates from college and I were living in a part of Bruno's (sort of as refugees during some kind of disaster I suppose) and decided to go get some food from the store. Two of them ended up stealing money from this old lady at the register and I felt bad for her.
Anwyay, later on I was with someone else in New York City and we had just gotten onto this floor with a lounge in a nice building when I look to my left and see Helena Bonham Carter! Of course in the dream I was just as awkward as I really am so it took a while for me to muster the courage and the composure to go up and ask for a photo with her, which is right when I woke up.

That dream put me in a good mood, though, for this morning.
I love that woman.

I had to get up anyway, because a friend of mine that goes to Annapolis invited me to some kind of ....I guess equivalent of a Naval Academy winter formal? tonight where they wear the dress uniform and I panic out of my mind trying to find a suitable dress!
It's in Birmingham and so we're driving up there this morning, having lunch and such, before we go.

I actually woke up before 3 in the afternoon yesterday. I don't think I've seen 8 AM in a long, long time.

Whenever I'm awake in the morning I feel particularly productive and end up getting a lot more done in less time, which was good because I had a lot to do.

I ended up going shopping later in the morning with my cousin (who is more like my brother) Buddy.

This is us at Thanksgiving, in Grand Bay at our grandparents' house.
Note the fire, gasoline can, random feral cat, and unkempt flower bed.

He had to buy literally -all- of his Christmas presents so we drove all around town looking for stuff.
In our shopping spree, we stopped by both Goodwill stores that I know of in Mobile, and he found a brand name metal detector, still in its original packaging, for $4. He's giving it to our grandfather in hopes that it will get him a little more active. I was a little jealous that his gift finding was so easy.
I guess I forget that this time of year Goodwill is especially packed with stuff that people are giving away as they feel charitable and are making room for the new.
I did find a really antique looking typewriter that looked fairly intact on one of the back shelves amongst the old TVs and VCRs. I can't stop thinking about it and I know it probably won't work like it is supposed to and I shouldn't buy things for myself this time of year, but it was probably a steal and I'm tempted to go back and buy it.
It would at least be a fun project to work on to get it looking and working well, and I'm obsessed with weird nostalgic things like that.
I suppose if I got it looking and working nice, I could always give it away to one of my friends who would appreciate it.

Earlier this year I bought an old Polaroid OneStep camera for less than $10 and spent a week running around campus snapping polaroids of my friends and random stuff. It's just so much more satisfying to take photos with that than with my digital camera, for some reason.

I also really like old television sets, with wood casing and knobs.
You know what I mean? Do you guys like any older stuff like that, just for the novelty?

It's going to be hard to look stoic, though, because I'm going to be smiling ALL WEEKEND LONG.
She's my favorite character in this series, though, so I'm stoked.

Here's my wig I purchased from Cosworx:

Keep in mind this is out-of-the-bag unstyled. I just tried it on and took a few photos.

I had to lighten up my skin with Photoshop, because I'm TAN AS SHIT right now. I wanted to see if the wig would look better once I was a little less tan and wore light makeup. I didn't alter the color of anything else in the photos.

I need to work with the wig a bit and try it with the black headband.

And at least I won't have to wear contacts. For once someone actually has black eyes. Convenient!

I had a really amazing dream last night and I want to make sure it is in writing before I forget it completely.

It began with my mother and I.
We were walking in a museum-parlor looking place and we ran into the wrong part of the place where an event was going on and so we had gone back to the front desk (which wasn't in the front at all because the place had the floor plan of an old house). The walls were all white and had crown molding and everything was very well-furnished and looked Victorian, but not cluttered or outdated.

The lady was stern-looking and gave my mom a disapproving stare as she told her what to do. While they were talking,I became distracted by a nearby door. It was large and white and as I pushed it open I stepped into a bedroom. There was a king-sized bed in the center against the back wall with plain bedding and although the room was huge, there were very few furnishings.I looked down and was standing in about two inches of water and I knew that somewhere there was a spigot that was running so it would keep filling up. I didn't feel in danger at all (as if the room were about to suddenly flood), and actually was very intrigued and kept walking into the middle of the room towards the bed. As the water rose, I got on top of the bed to see around better and to avoid getting wet. I then noticed that there were shining orange goldfish in the water and when I had walked through, I had stepped on some of them by accident and killed them. I was upset, but then I remember there was a strange-looking lady there with me on the bed. She had long black hair and very pale skin and her eyes were huge and wild. I remember she was somehow seducing me and leaning towards me as she spoke until I fell back on the bed and she was still leaning over me.

I felt out of place and strange, but then I remember nothing until the next part of my dream, which was the best.

So naturally, I have remembered the least about it.

In the next part, a young man (in his early twenties from his looks) was in the same room with me. It was just he and I and I knew that he was some sort of wealthy heir to the place we were in and that this was some secret room. He was tall and had sandy blonde hair and looked very noble. He was dressed very nicely, although I can't remember exactly what he was wearing other than it wasn't modern. He was at once very familiar with me and consoled me about the fish I had killed. I remember he smiled a lot and was very charismatic. This was around the time I woke to my alarm but I remember in one of the last bits he and I were planning something or about to leave the fish room.

ATTENTION ALL TECHNOLOGICALLY INCLINED LIVEJOURNAL FRIENDS!

The deal here is that my grandparents are allegedly buying me a laptop as a graduation present.
The 'allegedly' part hinges on how much the one I want costs. My mom wanted me to stay under 1k but seeing as that's damn near impossible I'm trying to just stay around that target while still being reasonable.
This sucker has to last me through college, so I don't want to skimp out on important stuff and regret it later.

I will be using it for the following functions:

Listening to music w/iTunes

Web Browsing & YouTube-ing

Downloading music

Instant Messaging/Voice Chatting/Webcam-ing

Word Processing and Slideshows

Photoshopping and organizing photos

Synch-ing with my Blackberry & a digital camera

Storage is not a big deal at all, because I plan to purchase a portable hard drive for my junk.

Here are some I have been looking at:

Macbook:

Maybe it's just me, but right now Leopard's looking a whole lot sexier than Vista.
Of course the one I want is:

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

2GB RAM

250GB hard drive

$1,499.00

Price is a huge problem there.

HP Pavilion dv2700t Special Edition series:

2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

3 GB RAM

160 GB Hard Drive

$1,174.99

I've seen this laptop in Best Buy and it is seriously a sexy looking piece.
Being female, I totally go for looks in machines and so this is a huge bonus.
The thing here is I'm giving up the NVIDIA GeForce card, extra gig of RAM, and a better processor to knock the price down around $300.
I mean I'm not realistically going to be doing any gaming at all on this thing. I hardly ever have on my desktop now.
This is the laptop I'm leaning towards most out of the group.

Sony VAIO CR Series:

2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

2 GB RAM

160 GB Hard Drive

$1179.99

This one *comes* with Bluetooth, no extra. Also free engraving, not that I would even know what to engrave on this bitch.
Also has like 6 colors to choose from, but none are really AMAZING.
That's like the ability to have sweet passionate love with my Blackberry at will.
However, there seems to be a lot I don't know about this laptop and for some reason I'm wary to buy a Sony notebook, idk why.

Okay...I realize that was only three laptops but I have NO IDEA WHAT TO DO HERE PEOPLE.
I have to pick one out in the next month or so to let them know how much it will be and all!
If you have any suggestions at all or brands to avoid (besides Alienware and Compaq, that is) let me know!

So Dragon*Con looks like it's going to be a longshot, simply because I have no means to book a hotel room and they're already nearly sold out. I really have no idea what to do at this point, but I have my heart set on going. I guess as a last resort I could ask to stay at my godmother's house, but that would be not as much fun.

Only twenty some-odd days left of school until I'm finished with high school hell forever! I'm so sick of it I almost can't stand it.
I have a multimedia project and a video to do before Thursday, which is the computer competition at Faulkner. I hope it's fun. This year a lot of the photography students were forced to enter by their teacher so I'm hoping it won't lessen the crazy-nerdiness that I love so much. I'm being pretty selfish and defensive about this situation, actually.

I went to a tanning bed for the first time ever today. I'm unevenly white all over, and the dress I'm wearing to prom Friday really accentuates the fact that I have a sock tan/white chest. It was a new place that was just opened by my house and I think there's like one person working there who may or may not own the place. It wasn't high-end at all, but the actual bed was nice and the bulbs were new and it was clean and NO ONE was there so it was quite perfect, really. I was in there for ten minutes and I can tell the difference already.
I FEAR NO BURN!
I LOVE BEING NATIVE AMERICAN.

Her blog was at www.erstwhiledelight.com, which no longer exists.
Every few years I'll try to Google Erstwhile Delight or her name to see if she's back on the web somewhere.
I guess it's kind of weird-sounding and seems stalker-ish, but after reading someone else's blog for two years straight you feel like you've lost a friend.

Other than the friends on my Livejournal page, I only read one other blog now.

I like webcomics more than blogs and currently have these in my tab bar to look at every day:
LOLCATS
Married to the Sea
Toothpaste for Dinner
xkcd
Cute with Chris

And occasionally, but not often:
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Natalie Dee

    <lj:music>"God is a DJ" - Pink</lj:music>

So after much consideration I decided to accept Alabama's offer.
The End.

I had a really awesome weekend, though, aside from babysitting the hellions on Saturday from 3:00 to 9:00.
On Friday I was going to go bowling with a group of friends but it ended up just being Derek , Hitoshi (my 6'2"ish Japanese friend), and myself.
It was almost weird since they both go to South and I had never hung out with Derek in a non-group setting before, but he's an awesome guy and reminds me a lot of my sister in the way he's just friendly with everyone, so it worked out pretty well. After I won the first game of bowling, Hitoshi gave me a serious look and told me he wouldn't have invited me if he knew I was any good. I told him I was bad beforehand because I AM BAD! The second game I rolled STRAIGHT ZEROES for the first few blocks. Derek won that one.

After that we traveled to Starbucks to fuel my craving for coffee, where we sat around at the cafe tables outside and tried finding other stuff to do by texting/calling friends to see if there were any parties or anything going on. Hitoshi still has trouble with English sometimes, and when he answered his phone and tried to tell the person that we were hanging out, he ended up saying "I'm hung." and Derek and I were laughing so hysterically that Hitoshi started laughing and couldn't catch his breath long enough to correct himself. "I'm Hung" became the running joke of the weekend after that. Later another guy had to explain to him, "It means ya have a big penis, Hitosh.", to which Hitoshi replied "OOOH NOOO!!" and generally looked shocked. We had another good laugh at that one.

After Starbucks we headed to Picklefish and Derek fetched us a pitcher of beer and we sat out on the wooden balcony part outside and chatted about all the places we'd traveled to. Hitoshi admitted that he wouldn't have come to Mobile had he known it was like this. Derek talked about Mexico, and then they asked about where all I had lived. Soon, Derek's old roommate Dawes (pronounced "Doss") showed up and made drug references enough for us to go to Purple Cafe, where we got a table and smoked hookah and ate hummus for an hour or so before we went to this guy Cooper and his fiance's apartment.
HUMMUS AND HOOKAH ARE GOOD. PURPLE CAFE GETZ FIVE STARZ.
Also Dawes wheeled-and-dealed drugs with some guy that worked there so we got some free sampler food, which was very tasty.

Later we were at the apartment and Cooper and Hitoshi and I talked about DDR stuff (random!) and played Stepmania on his laptop while Dawes walked around smoking weed out of a pipe. Cooper spent the rest of the evening drunk, raving about how he'd never had better weed in his life and begging Dawes to hook him up with some nuggets. I talked to them about video games and eventually mentioned Rock Band, which they all immediately got excited about and wanted me to come over so they could have a party and have everyone play it the next night (Saturday).

Saturday I didn't wake up until noon and then babysat until 9 or so, which involved such horrors as the Veggietales Movie, picking up foam packing peanuts all over the living room and under the furniture, and putting up with various crap.

That night Derek called me and we met up at Cooper's apartment and hooked up my PS3 and Rock Band and started playing. Hitoshi didn't show up until much later because he was at some other party playing Guitiar Hero.
Note: Asians cannot play drums.
There were a good number of people to play it and we alternated instruments and had a really awesome time. I think we all eventually played every instrument and even sang. (I sang "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and "Seven" by Vagiant...as quietly as possible)
They had talked about getting a Heinekin keg but Derek and I went to the Food Market and couldn't find one so settled for a 12 pack. It didn't matter to me either way because I had to drive later, but it was funny to see all the random people in the alcohol aisle at that time of night. Also I almost broke Derek's car door, which was already halfway broken. I ended up locking myself in but un-jammed it in time to not completely embarrass myself. Cooper and his fiance had some fabulous jasmine hookah that they said "tasted like a flower" even though I can't vouch for that because I have no idea what flowers taste like.

Sunday I went to Biloxi with my family to eat buffet at one of the casinos and we saw this guy hit the jackpot on the diamond slots. It was really amazing because I had been watching him play as he hit the sevens. Fun stuff.

I am completely torn between choosing Alabama or Auburn.
I have received the exact same scholarship (covering full tuition for four years) at both universities so I can't make a decision based on money alone. I know I've already said I've made up my mind and chosen Alabama, but I've been having huge second thoughts lately so I figured I would make a list of all the positive/negative aspects of each school to not only help me decide, but help you guys to help me!
I'm the most indecisive person on the planet so any help you can send my way will be very much appreciated! Don't think this is any indication that I'm leaving my life for the next six (or seven?) years in the hands of Livejournal, I'm just using this to help me sort out my thoughts and get feedback from people who aren't as biased as those I talk to everyday. (Except for you, Katie!)

Keep in mind seemingly trivial things like the aesthetics of the campus and bathroom access mean a LOT more to me than normal people, as I am spoiled as crap and am used to living in my own space. I am very independent and like to keep to myself at home.
Also I have no association with football or any kind of sports fandom so I could care less about that. In fact, I'm MUCH more likely to pick the school with less going on sports-wise, as I don't want to deal with that.

Alabama

Pros:
Guarenteed housing in the Honors dorms (which are VERY NICE)
I am already accepted into both the Honors program and the International Honors Program
Only share a bathroom with one other suitemate
More reputable academics, whether or not they are actually better
More prestigious looking, nicer campus
It is very close to Birmingham, a city I actually *like* in Alabama
School colors are very attractive

Cons:
Would have to switch to Auburn eventually anyway as I'm going to pharmacy school there
Would have to find people to be suitemates
Not knowing many people on campus
Last time I visited was a few years ago

Auburn

Pros:
All pharmacy schools in Alabama go through Auburn, so my chance of getting into pharm. school are better as a student there
Pharmacy program is probably better at Auburn than AL because it is specialized
Already have a potential roommate, who is one of my best friends
Could potentially live in a two bedroom apartment on campus with said roommate, with our own kitchen and bathroom
Knowing (pretty well) a good number of students on campus
Located halfway between Mobile (family) and Atlanta (rich, fun godmother, anyone?)

Cons:
I would be at the same school for 5-7 years (depending on the pharmacy degree I got)
Potentially sharing a bathroom with lots of people in a dorm
Housing is reputably not half as nice as at Alabama
Housing is hard to get ALREADY (the seconds are just TICKING)
In the middle of the woods, and not close to a city
School colors are atrocious (sorry, I just don't think complimentary colors should be made into school colors, it's hard to look at)

Also, my mom got really pissed to the point of almost-not-speaking-to-me today when I was on the phone with Kristin discussing prices of Auburn housing.
Eventually after I hung up with Kristin I asked her:
"Mom are you serious? Would you really refuse to pay my housing, even if it was cheaper, if I were going to Auburn instead of Alabama?"
"Yes. I can do whatever I want. I don't have to pay any of it."
"Just because of a stupid football team?"
"It's not just that."
"Yeah, I think it is."
Which of course sparked one of the very rare confrontations I have with my mother so now we're doing the cold shoulder thing for the rest of the evening, I'm guessing. I tried to be nice and help her out, but she just shot me down so now I've retreated to the study.
It may be easier to just go to Alabama and not have to put up with all this bullshit with her hating me.
I mean I know you guys think this is trivial in what should be my decision to make, but I really have no other immediate family.
It's just me and my mother.
My prejudiced, obsessive-compulsive mother.

Edit: She's singing "Puff The Magic Dragon" from in the kitchen.
She only knows one lyric though, so she continues to hum the rest of the song.
I can hear the stove sizzling.
Dear God, someone save me.
